Paul Lucas is a policy researcher and Integrated Assessment Modeller working in the Sustainable Development team at PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency. His work focusses on the role of the environment in sustainable development. He did extensive work on post-2012 climate regimes and mitigation strategies. His more recent work focusses on integrated assessment of achieving long-term sustainability targets, addressing simultaneously environmental and development issues, for which he specifically assesses the role of the environment in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He advised the Dutch government in the process of creating the SDGs and currently on implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Netherlands. He is a member of the Planetary Boundaries research network, contributed to the Global Monitoring Report series of the World Bank and was involved as a lead author for UNEP’s fifth Global Environmental Outlook (GEO). Furthermore, he has written various scientific articles, addressing climate policy, energy dynamics and more broad sustainable development issues.
