Arthur Petersen (PBL) appointed as professor at the VU University Amsterdam

Dr Arthur Petersen has been appointed Special Professor of Science and Environmental Public Policy, from 1 April 2011, for one day per week. This chair at the IVM Institute for Environmental Studies has been established by the PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency. Dr Petersen will be conducting research and lecture on methodological aspects of connecting science and policy for issues that carry large uncertainties.

Arthur Petersen (1970) has been working at the PBL and its predecessors since 2001. Over the past years, his research has mainly been directed at managing uncertainties related to scientific knowledge. Following his studies in physics and philosophy, he obtained a degree in atmospheric sciences at the Utrecht University in 1999, and in philosophy of science at the VU University Amsterdam in 2006.

Since 1 March 2009 Dr Petersen has been visiting professor at the London School of Economics. Furthermore, as from 1 January 2011 he is Chief Scientist at the PBL, coordinating its scientific quality.

Dr Petersen will hold his inaugural address on Thursday 29 September 2011, 15:45 hrs, in the Aula of the VU University Amsterdam.
