Guidance on communication about uncertainties

Other type | 14-01-2005

Part of the knowledge and information provided by the MNP is constituted by information about the quality of the available knowledge and methods used and about the robustness of the policy-relevant conclusions. Policy makers, politicians and other societal actors, in their respective roles, must be able to responsibly deal with the sometimes large uncertainties which are inherent in problems related to the environment, nature and sustainability.

Guidance ready

In December 2002, the RIVM/MNP Guidance for Uncertainty Assessment and Communication was ready. It is now being implemented in the working procedures of the MNP. This marks a significant milestone. The theme of ‘Uncertainty analysis’ has featured prominently on RIVM’s research agenda for several years now. The next few years it is important to embed the knowledge acquired about dealing with uncertainty into the working processes of the MNP. The Guidance is a relevant aid for this purpose.
