Model Details

Submodels and datasets of FAIR

The FAIR model consists of three linked models:

  1. Input data : to calculate the global emission reduction objective, based on the difference between the baseline emissions scenario (without climate policy) and emission pathway (including climate policy) aiming at a climate target (like stabilising greenhouse gas concentrations for the FAIR region and country model, or a EU reduction target for the FAIR EU model).
  2. An emissions allocation model : to calculate the emission targets for regions, countries and EU Member States for different climate regimes for future commitments within the context of this reduction objective.
  3. A costs model :  to calculate the abatement costs for each region using the emissions targets of the regimes and to distribute the global emission reduction objective over the different regions, gasses and sectors following a least-cost approach, making use of the flexible Kyoto mechanisms.

Furthermore, various datasets of historical emissions, baseline scenarios, emission profiles and costs curves are included in the different FAIR versions to assess the sensitivity of the outcomes towards these key inputs.

The relations between the three submodels and the datatsets of FAIR are visualized in the following scheme. To navigate to the subjects click on the corresponding areas of the scheme or use the navigation subitems on the left.
