Public Symposium “Development dimensions of a new global climate change agreement”

25 September 2008, 13.00 – 17.00, Rolzaal, Binnenhof 11, The Hague, The Netherlands

For developing countries, the consequences of the climate change debate are of crucial importance to their development aspirations. Any active participation on their part, in a post-Kyoto agreement, has to reconcile their development needs with climate related action. This is also reflected in the Bali Action Plan under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change shows that there are good opportunities for integrating development and climate strategies. These opportunities are now widely discussed in the international climate change negotiations.

The aim of this public symposium is to present and discuss ways forward for integrating development and climate policies on the way to a new global climate agreement. The focus will be on practical solutions that can create mutual benefits at national and international levels, between development and climate change policies. Speakers and panellists have been asked to present their opinions and provide innovative ideas, which could become input in the ongoing negotiations. This symposium is organised to mark the occasion of the retirement of dr.ir.Bert Metz (co-chair of IPCC working group III on Mitigation) from the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL).For this symposium a limited number of seats is still available.

To register for this symposium, please send an email to info@pbl.nl, stating your contact details, before 19 September. The symposium will be held in English! The programme for this symposium is as follows.
