PBL Academy Lecture: Biodiversity from an integral perspective

How can we enhance nature to improve our physical environment and prevent biodiversity loss? During her PBL Academy Lecture, which will be held on 15 November, internationally renowned ecologist Sandra Díaz will elaborate on the need for a transformative, integral approach: from local to global. Sandra Díaz, co-chair of the IPBES Global Assessment and Professor at the National University of Córdoba (Argentinia), will focus on species and ecosystems and also talk about the essential role that nature plays for people.

Two co-lecturers will then translate her message into a policy perspective and implementation in practice, both in the Netherlands and in Europe. The first co-lecturer will be Johan Osinga, director-general of the Dutch Ministery of Agricultural, Nature and Food Quality, followed by Jolinda van der Endt, CEO at Bij12, the organisation that supports the Dutch provinces in implementing their policy on biodiversity. This lecture’s broad approach that covers various levels of government means it is highly on-topic with regard to the upcoming UN Biodiversity Conference (COP 15) in Kunming, China.

The PBL Academy Lecture will be held on 15 November 2021, at 14:30, and will be streamed online. The lecture will be hosted by PBL’s Director-General Hans Mommaas, who will also be chairing the discussion with the three experts, in which the listeners are also invited to participate. The lecture and discussion will be in English.
