PBL organizes two seminars during the IABR

As part of the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam (IABR) the PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency organizes two symposia. Both will take place in The Kunsthal in Rotterdam. On June, 5: ‘The infrastructure of the Smart City’ (in Dutch); on June, 19: ‘Global challenges, urban futures’. Registration for both seminars is now open. 

The Infrastructure of the Smart City (Dutch)

How are Dutch ‘Smart Cities’ taking shape? What are the consequences for the city’s infrastructure, its metabolism and its inhabitants? Maarten Hajer (PBL) will enter into debate on this subject with Marleen Stikker (Waag Society), Jan Hendrik Dronkers (Rijkswaterstaat), Guido Braam (Circle Economy), Chris Sigaloff (St. Nederland Kennisland), Stefan Kuks (Unie van Waterschappen) and Jorick Beijer (Blossity). This symposium is jointly organised by PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency and the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment.

Global challenges, urban futures (English)

Cities, both in the North and in the South, will run into trouble if they do not get a grip on their own metabolism. Flows of energy, food, water, material and waste are growing fast. The PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency stages an international debate on the global challenges that cities face. Participants are Mark Swilling (Stellenbosch University, UNEP IRP), Philipp Rode (London School of Economics), Joyeeta Gupta (University of Amsterdam) and John Urry (Lancaster University).
