Assessment of the Dutch Human Environment 2014

The future is now

The English translation of the ‘Balans van de Leefomgeving 2014’ (Assessment of the Human Environment 2014) is now available. It contains statistical information and analyses of recent developments in the Netherlands, in the fields of housing, energy, mobility, water, food and nature. The assessment is a biennial publication.

The PBL study focuses on the future, more explicitly than in the previous assessment reports. The Netherlands is not yet sufficiently prepared for the far-reaching problems that it may face over the coming decades, such in demography, climate, biodiversity and natural resource availability.
The Assessment consists of a report (English: pdf; Dutch: print), six volumes of background information (in Dutch), and a comprehensive website that contains indicators for quantitative objectives of government policy.
