EU Resource efficiency perspectives in a global context

Resource Efficiency is one of the flagship projects of the European Commission. On this subject, the expected global development of five related aspects has been mapped by the PBL: energy, land use, phosphorus (fertiliser), fresh water, and fish stocks.

The situation under no additional policies up to 2050 has been compared to what could be achieved if such policies were to be adopted, and attention is paid to the relationship with climate change. For fresh water, the expected situation is the most serious. The report presents a number of suggestions for European policy.
