Greenhouse gas emissions in the Netherlands, 1990-2013: National Inventory Report 2015

Total greenhouse gas emissions in the Netherlands decreased in 2013 by approximately 0.2%, compared with those in 2012. This was mainly the result of a decrease in fossil-fuel combustion in the transport sector and petrochemical industry. In 2013, total direct greenhouse gas emissions (excluding emissions from Land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF)) in the Netherlands amounted to 195.8 Tg CO2 eq. This is approximately 12% below the emission level in 1990.

This report documents the Netherlands' submission of its annual greenhouse gas emission inventory for 2015, in accordance with the guidelines provided by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)3 and the European Union's Greenhouse Gas Monitoring Mechanism. Implementation of the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (IPCC, 2006) has caused a change in the presentation of emission data, in comparison with previous submissions. This report contains information on the observed trends in emissions, an assessment of the main emission sources and the uncertainty related to their emission levels, the methods and data sources used, and the emission factors applied. Furthermore, it provides a description of the quality assurance system and data-verification activities.
