Trends in global CO2 and total greenhouse gas emissions

The Trends in global CO2 emissions report is one in a series of annual publications by PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency and the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC). After the web reviews that were published in 2007 and 2008, the CO2 report series started in 2009, providing up-to-date knowledge on the trend in global CO2 emissions related to fossil fuel combustion and cement production. These reports include CO2 emission estimates made by PBL and JRC on the basis of energy consumption data published by the International Energy Agency (IEA) and – for the most recent years – those published by BP. For a quick overview of the most important figures, check out our one page website.

The estimations are also based on production data on cement, lime, ammonia and steel, as well as on emissions, per country, from the Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research (EDGAR) which was developed jointly by JRC and PBL.
